As my 'friend' Sporer pointed out, Gretz has more career points and played longer then Bossy and Gretz shouldn't be penalized for that. Ok, fair enough. Bobby Orr is 11th in career point for a D-man... does that mean Larry Murphy is a better pure scorer then him with 301 more points? Or Larry Robinson with 50 more? Or Chris Chelios with 33? Or Phil Housley with 317? Of course not. Who knows what would have come about if Orr was able to play as long as Chelios or Murphy (I think it's safe to assume Orr would have written untouchable records like Gretz), so why can't the same be true for Bossy? Who knows what would have happened if he was able to play more then 10 seasons. He may have continued on his career average pace, he may not have. It's an interesting topic to debate.
Now, semi-props to Sporer (honestly) for finally admitting that Gagner has been a catastrophic disappointment (although you could sense the hope and desperation in his blog) this season; however, Sporer failed to mention that I correctly predicted the sophomore jinx for the entire KID line: Gagner on pace for 13.66 PTS down from 49, Cogs on pace for 31.54 down from 45, Nilsson on pace for 31.54 down from 41. Also, just while looking at the stats for this season, EDM is 29th in the NHL in FO%. If you can't win the important draws, you're just setting yourself up for a disastrous shift...
To put a smile on Sporer's face (and since he was man enough to 'bash' his Oilers), I suppose I could rip apart the Stars for a bit here too. The Stars have only 1 win, when trailing 1-0, in 7 attempts... that's simply not good enough. First, they shouldn't be falling behind to start with. Secondly, what separates a Contender from a Pretender is how they respond to adversity. Dallas is sorely lacking in that department. Also, Dallas is DEAD LAST in GA/game with 4.00!!! How?! Why?! Turco Turco Turco... for shaaaaame. Thank goodness they are only 2 PTS out of a playoff spot (with a game in hand on CLB).Now, lets look at another interesting topic, one to draw great debate and criticism...
