Friday night....Seen Gagner?!

So i was talking with my friend Smith the other night about all time greats. Everyone knows that Wayne Gretzky has pretty much every record there is for the NHL. However, my friend had convinced himself that Mike Bossy, one of the NHL's best scorers of all time, was a better pure goal scorer then Gretzky. Now if i am not mistaken Gretzky leads the all-time scorers list with 894 goals. Now if you take a close look, Mike Bossy is way down the list at 18th, with 573 goals. Now if one were to ask; who is the best scorer in the NHL all time? I would be inclined to answer Wayne Gretzky because, duh, he has the most! However my friends argument is the fact that Mike Bossy's Goals per Game average was .762, while Gretzky's is at .601. The problem with that however is Gretzky played TEN more seasons than Bossy! So the argument is would Bossy have kept up his numbers enough to beat out Gretzky had Bossy played the same number of seasons? Another major factor into this is that had Gretzky played the same number of season's as Bossy (10) he would have had far and alone the best goals per game at .823. With all of this in mind one has to come to the conclusion that however well Bossy may have done in his 10 years ultimately Gretzky is the NHL's all time Purest Goal scorer, because he holds the record for; Most Goals in One Season 92, Most Career Goals 894, and the Best Single Season Goals Per Game at 1.18 (that's players with more than 50 goals). So needless to say although Bossy have been prolific for his ten years in the league, Wayne Gretzky was prolific through his WHOLE 20 SEASON career. End of story.

Now to the other story of my post, Sam Gagner. Seen him? Probably not. Its kinda hard to notice him when he is doing diddly squat! He is a slow starter as we saw last year, so hopefully he will continue his trend of having a fiery finish, especially WHEN the Oilers make the playoffs. Another thing being, his plus minus doesnt help the story either, at -2 he isnt helping the team by being responsible in his own zone either. Is it the case of the sophomore jinx? Myabe, and if it is, im sure he will break out of it and prove that the Oilers mad no mistake taking him 6th overall. Even Ovechkin had a slight sophomore jinx in his second season with only 46 goals and 96 points (ok maybe not so bad, but for Ovie, its not very good). Jonathan Toews is suffering over in Chicago as well with only 7 assists and a -1. Good players break out of slumps and dont let them hamper them, so Gagner, now is time to prove your worth!
